UNION — After a one-year respite, due to COVID-19, the sound of crunching metal, crashing cars and roaring crowds returned to the Union Fair and Wild Blueberry Festival.

That is because the demolition derby returned to town on Saturday night, Aug. 21, a scenario that saw eight heats wow spectators, all of whom enjoyed a smashing good time.

In the first of two 4-cylinder heats, Justin Berube of Albion finished first and James Smith of Thomaston second, while in the second heat, Caleb Leland of Warren finished first and Conrad Jarr of Turner second.
