There were three additional cases of COVID-19 in Knox County over the past day, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Aug. 21.

Neighboring Waldo County had 10 additional cases over the past day, the CDC reported Aug. 21.

Since the pandemic began, 1,275 Knox County residents were diagnosed with the virus, 37 were admitted to hospitals and seven died.

Statewide, numbers continue to surge with an additional 205 cases in the past day. There were two additional deaths reported statewide on Aug. 21, increasing the number to 924.

Four additional people statewide were hospitalized over the past day, increasing that number to 2,236 since the pandemic began in Maine in mid-March 2020.

Currently, 88 Mainers are hospitalized with the virus, 43 in critical care units and 17 are on respirators.

The CDC reports an additional 30 Knox County residents have been fully vaccinated in the past two days, reaching 26,993 which is slightly more than 76 percent of the eligible population.
