ROCKLAND — Valeska Scott went home to be with the Lord Aug. 14, 2021, at Tall Pines Nursing Home in Belfast, after a long period of declining health. She was 92.

Valeska was born in Rockville Center, N.Y., Aug. 20, 1928, to Leda and Victor Utgoff. She graduated from Stratford High School in Stratford Conn., in 1947. She lived for a short time in Hawai’i before moving to Northport, N.Y., where she met and married Robert S. Scott in 1954.

Together, they raised their young family there. Valeska and her family spent many summers vacationing in the St. George, and they moved there permanently in 1977. She worked for many years as a certified nursing assistant at the Camden Nursing Home. In her later years, she resided in Rockland.

Valeska will be remembered as a devout Christian.

She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed boat rides and lobster rolls. She was fluent in Russian and took every opportunity to speak it when she found someone to converse with. She looked forward to her summer visits with her brother Vadym and his wife on Islesboro. A life-long cat lover, she had a special place in her heart for the numerous cats she had over the years.

Valeska was predeceased by her daughter, Stephanie, and brothers Vadym, Victor and Vladimir.

She is survived by sons Theodore Scott and his wife Vicki, Stephen R. Scott and his wife Nancy, and Brian Scott, all of Tenants Harbor; nine grandchildren Stephen C. Scott, Tynesha Johnson, Jessica Goodell, Morgan Scott, Ariana Scott, Victoria Scott, Julia Scott, Hannah Scott and Robert Scott; as well as six great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Valeska’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 18, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. To share a memory or condolence with the Scott family, visit their Book of Memories at bchfh.com.
