There were no additional cases of COVID-19 in Knox County over the past day, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Aug. 19.

Neighboring Waldo County had four additional cases over the past day, the CDC reported Aug. 19.

Since the pandemic began, 1,265 Knox County residents were diagnosed with the virus, 37 were admitted to hospitals and seven died.

Statewide, numbers continue to surge with an additional 182 cases in the past day. There were 12 additional deaths reported statewide on Aug. 19, increasing the number to 921. There was three deaths in Cumberland County, two in Kennebec and one each in York, Penobscot, Oxford, Somerset, Hancock and Washington counties with another not included in any of the counties.

Often, when there are such a large number of deaths reported in one day, it is because the state reviews death certificates over the past several weeks.

Seven additional people statewide were hospitalized over the past day, increasing that number to 2,228 since the pandemic began in Maine in mid-March 2020.

Currently, 92 Mainers are hospitalized with the virus, 46 in critical care units and 19 are on respirators. This is the highest since the new wave of the Delta variant began.
