Now the real fun — and next-level competition — has begun as teams step to the plate for a dream ending to their season with, of course, a championship.

It was another interesting summer campaign in the Midcoast Adult Coed Softball League, also historically known as the Camden League, as one of the longer running squads found itself in the top spot after a 15-game regular season.

However, now the double-elimination playoffs have swung in and, as always, anything will, and usually does, happen.

The postseason began on Wednesday, Aug. 18 and runs through early September.

The league’s 13 teams will vie in contests, as they did in the regular season, at Jaycee Park on Old County Road in Rockland, former Rockport Elementary School on the corner of Route 1 and West Street in Rockport, Camden Snow Bowl, Hope Elementary School and Lincolnville Central School. One regular-season game was played in Thomaston under the lights.

Feener Pride ended atop the regular-season standings with 13 wins in 15 games, with Knox County Benchwarmers and Bayview Bushwhackers close behind with 12 victories. Maine Cat, ranked fourth this year, is the defending league champion.

The final regular-season standings included: Feener Pride, 13-2, .867 winning percentage; Knox County Benchwarmers, 12-3, .800; Bayview Bushwhackers, 12-3, .800; Maine Cat, 10-5, .667; Walter J. Read Carpentry, 10-5, .667; Free Press Redwings, 9-6, .600; Smokin’ Rokys, 8-7, .533; Willey Wharf, 7-8, .467; French & Brawn Baggers, 7-8, .467; Steel-Pro, 6-9, .400; DX, 2-13, .133; Northeast Concrete, 2-14, .143; and Bonnie’s Place, 0-15, .000. (Sorted on winning percentage, head-to-head, run differential, runs against.)

The top teams certainly scored a bundle of runs and did not allow many, thus, the reasons for their successes. Benchwarmers again led the league in runs plated with 270 and fewest runs allowed at 67, for a whopping differential of 203. Among the other teams with plus-differentials were Feener (148-81-67), Bushwhackers (242-108-134), Maine Cat (150-100-50), Walter J. Read Carpentry (168-113-550), Redwings (141-105-36) and Rokys (155-130-25).

The other teams in the league allowed more than they scored, including Willey Wharf (123-177), Baggers (152-171), Steel-Pro (109-150), DX (116-244), Northeast Concrete (88-188) and Bonnie’s (63-291).
