HOPE — For the 30th year of the Hobbs Pond Swim, the event plans to return to its watery roots.

Longtime event organizers/helpers Judith and Bill Jones have “passed the torch” to others to keep the summertime tradition afloat.

Jones said event organizers are expected to “encourage the original concept of community swim” rather than the more competitive event it had become the last decade or so.

Bill, in his 80s, said he plans to continue to swim in the event.

As always, the swim begins at 10 a.m., for 2021 on Saturday, Aug. 21 on the small public beach at the end of Pond Road, off Barnestown Road.

The after-swim social will be at Hope General Store.

Ruth Jahn and Damon McClure are among those who look to carry on the swim’s fun, community tradition.
