Simon, who adores Temptation treats.

From the desk of Pope Memorial Humane Society’s Shelter Manager Theresa Gargan,

Welcome back to the shelter! It’s been so nice to see all the smiling faces, both familiar and new, come through our doors these past few weeks. It became so normal having the front door locked, I must now stop myself from heading over to unlock it to let people in.

Let’s hope this becomes the new normal.

Our residents are also hoping this turn of events means loving homes for them. Their bags are packed, nails trimmed, coats brushed and ready to begin happy lives with families of their own.

Simon and his sister, Elgora, have been squirrelling away Temptations treats in anticipation of their big day. They can be found waiting to greet and interview potential adopters as they enter their room. They have a gentle, kind way about them and with their tabby and white coats and gorgeous, inquisitive eyes they are a pair that can brighten any room.

If you find yourself out our way, pop in and meet these sensational siblings and our other fabulous residents. Who knows, one or two of them might be your perfect match.

Looking for a reason to enjoy an excellent pint of local brew? How about one that also benefits the animals at the shelter? Look no more.

Join us at The Pour Farm in Union, Aug. 14, from noon to 3 p.m. and raise a pint to support the animals. Special cupcakes will also be available for those with a sweet tooth.

Pope Memorial alumni Barley is hosting the event (with the help of his humans) and invited Bagel the Beagle and her babies as his special guests. Bagel and her pups will soon be ready to go home and are hoping to meet some potential families on this special day out. Folks are also welcome to drop off any items on our wish list. You can find it on our newly designed website

Hope to see you there!

Our wish list this week includes a special request from the kittens for canned kitten food, the ever popular paper towels and 30-gallon trash bags.

Thank you in advance for all you do to help us keep our residents happy and healthy!
