Doug Welch, executive director of the Maine Island Trail Association will present his film, “To Row and Let Go,” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Camden Yacht Club and via Zoom.

Attendees will follow Welch as he takes up ocean rowing, builds a boat at the legendary WoodenBoat School, and explores 34 islands on the Maine Island Trail. A question-and-answer period will follow. Welch has served as executive director of the Maine Island Trail since 2007. A lover of the Maine coast since childhood, Welch previously spent five years with the Island Alliance — a nonprofit organization charged with developing programs in the new Boston Harbor Islands National Park. Welch has a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School and a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. He lives in Portland with his wife Caitlin. Since joining MITA, Doug has perfected the first 180 degrees of his Eskimo roll, his technique for bending powerboat propellers and his tendency to always grab the wrong halyard. At age 50 he discovered rowing.
