UNION — Harold J. Conary, 94, passed away peacefully July 7, 2021, at Blue Hill Hospital.

He was born July 23, 1926, in Rockland, the son of Everett A. and Hazel (Holbrook) Conary.

In his youth, Harold attended Rockland schools.

Following his education, he worked a variety of jobs from working on boats, to delivering ice cream to local stores, and had some funny stories to tell from his time spent doing this work.

The real highlight of Harold’s younger days was when he met the love of his life, Gloria (Jonasson) Conary. Gloria lived across the street from Harold growing up, and after a great deal of convincing, Gloria finally agreed to go on a date with Harold. The two celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary July 3. Together, they raised three children, Harold Jr., Susan and Dawn. Harold, Gloria and the kids moved to Connecticut in the early 60s to pursue his trade as a machinist. Harold then decided to try his hand as a driver for Connecticut Transit.

After retirement, Harold and Gloria bought a sweet little cottage on Sennebec Pond in Union where they spent their summers while enjoying Florida during the winter months. Those who loved him most remember his sense of humor, his dedication and love for his family, and his charismatic personality that charmed all he met.

Harold is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria (Jonasson) Conary; daughter Susan (Conary) Stamp and her husband John of Connecticut; daughter Dawn Conary of Ellsworth; sisters Carolyn Keizer Robinson of Warren and Gloria Keizer Hannan of Waldoboro; daughter-in-law Jerrolyn Conary Wheeler of Connecticut; grandkids Robert H. Conary, Dawn L. Conary, Jessica Stamp and Matthew Stamp of Connecticut; great-grandkids Abigail, Nathan and Noah Stamp; and many nieces and nephews.

Harold was predeceased by his son, Harold J. Conary Jr. of South Windsor, Conn.

A service of remembrance will be held at a later date.
