Six more Knox County resident were diagnosed with COVID-19 over the past day, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Aug. 6.

In the past week alone, 19 more cases of Knox County residents were diagnosed.

No additional hospitalizations or deaths were reported for Knox County residents over the past day or week. Since the pandemic began, 1,210 Knox County residents were diagnosed with the virus, 36 were admitted to hospitals and seven died.

A total of 26,682 people in Knox County are fully vaccinated, amounting to 75% of the people eligible to receive the shots. This is an increase of 44 over the past two days.

Statewide, an additional 145 cases of COVID-19 were reported over the past day with no additional deaths reported. This kept the statewide death toll at 900. No additional people statewide were hospitalized over the past day, keeping that number at 2,159 since the pandemic began.

Forty-four people are in hospitals currently across the state with 18 in critical care units and seven on ventilators.

Health officials say the rapid spread of the Delta variant is being worsened by the failure of more people to be vaccinated.
