ROCKPORT — Gene Piken, 75, passed away in the morning of July 28, 2021, surrounded by the love of his family. He leaves behind his family who will miss him dearly and three small dogs, who miss him too!

Gene was born in Boston, Mass., July 5, 1946. He was the son of Bernard and Rachel Gardvici Piken, who met in France during WWII and fell in love. After the war was over, the family settled down in Dorchester, Mass.

From humble beginnings, Gene worked hard and made himself successful. He worked hard to put himself through college and earned multiple masters degrees.  He ran the international divisions of several top software companies around the world. Later, he transitioned into the health insurance industry and started his own very successful business in Camden.

Gene met his wife Linda Vaughan on a genuine blind date. They were married shortly thereafter, and later welcomed their daughter, Jennifer, into their family.

Gene had a dream life, if only for a while. He traveled the world, spoke many languages and made many friends.

Gene was an outstanding person who was smart, dedicated and charming. He had a strong work ethic and loved to help people… he still had not retired when he passed. He was loved and will be missed.

A gathering of love and remembrance will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Friday, Aug. 13, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.

In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to a national or international animal welfare organization of your choice.
