One more Knox County resident was diagnosed with COVID-19 over the past day, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported Aug. 4.

No additional hospitalizations or deaths were reported for Knox County residents over the past day. Since the pandemic began, 1,203 Knox County residents were diagnosed with the virus, 36 were admitted to hospitals and seven died.

A total of 26,638 people in Knox County are fully vaccinated, amounting to 75% of the people eligible to receive the shots. This is an increase of 30 over the past day.

Statewide, an additional 126 cases of COVID-19 were reported over the past day with no additional deaths reported. This kept the statewide death toll at 900. Five additional people statewide were hospitalized over the past day, increasing that number to 2,159 since the pandemic began.

Forty-two people are in hospitals currently across the state with 20 in critical care units and eight on ventilators.

Health officials say the rapid spread of the Delta variant is being worsened by the failure of more people to be vaccinated.
