Maine Master Gardener John Fromer will lead an outdoor talk on how to get gardens to bloom throughout August and the late season at Merryspring Nature Center Tuesday, Aug. 17 at noon.
To many gardeners, their gardens may start to look “sad” and unproductive by the middle of August- even when there are two more months of the growing season left to go. In this talk, Fromer will speak how to select and care for perennials that bloom past the early summer and take gardens right up through late fall. Also discussed will be ongoing gardening activities to keep gardens in good health for the remainder of the season, such as weeding, staking, pest and disease management, and deadheading.
Fromer has been a Maine Master Gardener since 1998 and runs Appleton Ridge Flower and Vegetable Farm with his wife Kathy, also a Maine Master Gardener. He currently serves on the Merryspring board of trustees.
This talk is part of Merryspring’s Outdoor Summer Talk series. Outdoor Talks are held in a distanced manner in the Hexagon at Merryspring. The cost of this program is $5 for the general public, with a free admission for Merryspring members. No preregistration is necessary for this event.
