CAMDEN — More than 2,200 homes and businesses were without power for a few hours.

Central Maine Power reported July 28 that power was expected to be restored by 2:15 p.m. that day.

The CMP website states that 1,125 customers in Camden and 1,076 in Rockport were affected by the outage. A transformer on Route 1 is believed to be the source of the outage.

Traffic lights were out at the Routes 90 and 1 intersection in Rockport and on Elm Street at the Hannaford shopping plaza, and power was out at the residences in the Knox Mill, according to Jeff Sukeforth with the Camden Police Department.

The downtown business area was hit by the outage, with over 70 customers affected on Bay View Street and 86 customers on Elm Street. High numbers of outages were also reported on residential areas downtown, including Park, Pearl, John, Chestnut and Union streets and Belmont, Curtis, Colorado, Limerock, Norwood and Virginia avenues.
