CAMDEN — Coastal Mountains Nature Program presents Forests of Lilliput – the Diminutive World of Mosses & Lichens, Saturday, Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Hodson Preserve in Camden. Maine Master Naturalist and master educator Jeff Pengel will introduce participants to the subtle and often amazing world of mosses and lichens. Mostly avoiding hardcore identification, we’ll look at their many adaptations for thriving in a world full of microhabitats in order to understand their role in the larger ecosystem. Bring a hand lens if you have one; otherwise, we will have a few loaners. Attendance is limited, and sign-up is necessary at info@coastalmountains.org. If too many people sign up, Pengel is willing to repeat the walk in the afternoon.
Since social distancing is impossible when everyone is crowding around to hear Jeff and see what he is looking at, all attendees must be fully vaccinated for COVID19 to ensure everyone’s safety. Unfortunately, that means that children under 12 cannot attend. Thank you for your understanding.
Directions:
From Camden, take Washington Street/Route 105 for 2.5 miles; turn left onto Molyneaux Road and drive approximately 0.6 miles to the preserve parking area on the right.
