ROCKPORT — The body of a 38-year-old Rockport man was recovered July 27 from a water-filled quarry.

Camden/Rockport Police Chief Randy Gagne said the body of Joshua D. Clapp was recovered from the Simonton Quarry at 8:45 p.m.

The search began earlier when a bicycle, backpack and clothes were found near the water’s edge. Rockport police contacted the Maine Warden Service, which sent wardens and a supervisor to the site.

A decision was made to use a remote-controlled device to search underwater. Clapp was ultimately located in about 112 to 115 feet of water. The remote equipment, about 3 feet by 3 feet, was able to bring his body to the surface with the assistance of a diver.

His body was taken to the Maine Medical Examiner’s facility where an autopsy will be done.
