A film still from “Pier Kids.” Elegance Bratton

“Pier Kids” is a 2019 film by Elegance Bratton and Chester Algernal. On the Christopher Street Pier in New York City, homeless queer and trans youth of color forge friendships and chosen families, withstanding tremendous amounts of abuse while working to carve out autonomy in their lives. With intimate, immersive access to these fearless young people, “Pier Kids” highlights the precarity and resilience of a community many choose to ignore.

This event is a collaboration with the award-winning documentary series POV ( Please note that unlike typical Thursday night programs, it will not be recorded and archived to YouTube.

The film will be screened in the Community Room at the Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St., with limited seating. For a link to attend via Zoom, please email by 4 p.m. on Aug. 5 and identify the event you are interested in attending in the subject line.
