LEWISTON — Megunticook Rowing traveled to Lewiston-Auburn for the first Riverfest Regatta on Saturday, July 24, as the group competed against rowers from around the state and throughout New England. The regatta was part of the three-day Lewiston-Auburn Riverfest, a celebration of the region and Androscoggin River.

It was a perfect, calm, sunny morning, and rowers from the Midcoast, who ranged in age from 16 to 67, competed in six events, racing the 1,500-meter course through downtown Lewiston in single and double shells, and in a 4+, a boat with a coxswain and four rowers, each with one oar.

In the doubles race, Cabot Adams, 16, of Appleton and Dominic Piconi, 16, of Camden raced to victory with a time of 6:30:28 , followed closely by Hugh Brock, 53, of Camden and Andren with a time of 6:47:10. Gill and Lydia Myers, 16, of St. George placed third with a time of 7:11:37.

“It was a beautiful day on the river and a great opportunity for local rowers to test their mettle against others outside the Midcoast,” said Meg Webb of Megunticook Rowing.
