ST. GEORGE — The town’s annual celebration on Saturday, July 17 on the peninsula is back and with it the 5-kilometer road race, children’s fun run and popular cornhole tournament.

The St. George Parks and Recreation will sponsor the popular Marshall Point 5K, or “Lighthouse Loop,”as well as the children’s fun run, both of which start and finish near Drift Inn Beach in the morning, as well as the cornhole tourney later in the day on the town’s big ballfield.

Ben Vail, recreation director, said the children’s fun run will begin at 8:30 a.m. and 5K at 9 a.m. Registration forms are available in the town office or on the parks and recreation web page.

The registration forms also may be mailed to the town office at P.O. Box 131 Tenants Harbor, Maine 04860.

The fun run is free, while the cost of the 5K road race is $2o.

There will be age-group champion awards, as well as overall race winners for both genders.

Registration for the 5K closes at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the race.

Proceeds from the race go to the recreation boosters to support youth recreation opportunities, Vail said.

The cornhole tournament will be on the big ballfield at 4 p.m. Registration is open until 3 p.m. on Saturday. The cost is $25 per team. There will be a maximum of 16 teams in the double-elimination event, which will present awards for the champions and runners-up.
