WASHINGTON — Ron’s Auto Sales and Salvage garage in Washington was destroyed in a fire July 10.
Washington Fire Chief Phil Meunier said the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s office.
Fire departments from Washington, Liberty, Union, Jefferson, Somerville, Hope, Whitefield and Appleton combated the blaze.
“It was big time,” said Meunier. Hope, Whitefield and Appleton fire departments do not usually work with the Washington department but were called in to provide extra tankers.
Ron Jackson, who owns the business, said someone saw the fire while driving by and called it in. The Washington Fire Department received the call at 7:30 p.m.
Meunier said the fire departments were on scene until about 3 a.m.
The fire chief said nothing was left of the garage by the time the fire was out. “We did save the house,” he added.
“It was wild,” Jackson said.
There was a huge volume of fire, according to Meunier. There were accelerants in the garage, he said, which is typical.
Jackson said he was grateful the house was still there.
