CAMDEN — The Camden Public Library will soon be hosting its first major outdoor book sale in nearly two years. The used book event will run Thursday, July 29, through Sunday, Aug. 1, and will be set up under a huge tent adjacent to the Blue Door Book Shed on Atlantic Ave. The book shed and event tent can be reached via the parking lot on the left just past the Camden Amphitheatre. Ten thousand books, DVDs, CDs, and audio books will be on sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Bibliophiles will have access to a superb collection of books of fiction and non-fiction, for children and adults, organized into 26 categories. 60% of the stock is hard cover, and there will be no buyer restrictions. Susan Fitzgerald, who has helped coordinate the library’s book sales for years, said, “We have wonderful fresh stock because we’ve been accepting donations all year. Our community loves getting super deals on high-quality books in great condition. We think they’ll be very pleased with what they find.”

Hardcover books will be priced at $3, trade paperbacks at $2, and mass market at $1. Children’s books will range from $ .50 to $2. CDs and DVDs will be $1. Special books and sets will be priced a little higher.

“Major book sales like this are very important fundraisers for the library,” said library Executive Director Nikki Maounis.  “It was a big financial challenge to put them on hold during the pandemic, but we’re feeling optimistic as we begin to reintroduce events like this again.”

The book sale is being held alongside another notable event to benefit the library. The “Camden on Canvas” Plein-Air Weekend will take place July 30 through Aug. 1 and feature 20 artists painting around town. The paintings will be auctioned off following a ticketed reception on the afternoon of Aug. 1.
