ST. GEORGE — “Plant Drawings: Another Way of Seeing” is a memorial exhibition of work by artist and educator Marla Mazar Carr that will be on view at Hedgerow Gallery July 16 through 25. All proceeds from the sale of Carr’s work will benefit the Jackson Memorial Library (JML) in Tenants Harbor.

The show is a testament to Carr’s passionate interest in medicinal plants and her conviction that interacting with the natural world is a sensuous, life-giving and mysterious experience. “The flowers are mirrors,” she once wrote in a poem, “As is the starry night and/The deep, black pond/Of your spirit.”

Carr, who died of metastatic breast cancer in early September 2020, had made arrangements to exhibit this very personal show of pencil drawings at the JML in March 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced its cancellation. Hedgerow Gallery is pleased to be able to provide a space for this remarkable work that Carr had hoped to share with—and benefit—her community.

An opening reception will be held Friday, July 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. A celebration of Marla Mazar Carr’s life will also be held at the gallery Sunday, July 18, at 2 p.m.

Hedgerow Gallery is located at 8 Ridge Road (at the corner of Route 131 and Ridge Road) between Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde. Visit hedgerowdesign.com for more information.
