This event has been changed from its original July 9 date due to inclement weather reports.
CAMDEN — Megunticook Lake will fill with music Friday, July 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at a water-access-only concert opened by Bad Galaxy and headlined by the Jason Spooner Band.
This annual event began five years ago with a fantasy of Yo-Yo Ma playing Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1 on a swim dock in the middle of the lake with the audience floating in canoes, paddleboards, Boston Whalers, party boats and inflated unicorns. After a few years of bad weather and a pandemic that created needs for workarounds, organizers are excited about a return to form.
The audience must arrive by boat—put in at Bog Bridge or Gypsy Landing on Route 52 and proceed to the destination: (44o 14.71’ N 69o 6.01’ W).
Plan to arrive early and leave on time for safe landing by sunset. Decoration of boats and costumes are encouraged. A floating blue steel seesaw constructed by Josiah Glover with two dancers aloft will be introduced this year. A reminder of the wonder, balance and equanimity needed as we re-emerge.
The Megunticook Lake Concert is free to the public. Donations are appreciated; visit the Lake Megunticook Association at megunticook.org/donate.
