While last season was a bit of a conundrum, this year is all systems go for American Legion baseball.

Last year, there was no official league due to COVID-19 restrictions, which prompted Scott Cournoyer, the general manager and president of Midcoast American Legion baseball, to make a double-switch, to hatch the Independent Summer Baseball League with 19-and-under and 17-and-under leagues.

“Last year there was no legion affiliation because national wouldn’t sign off and they didn’t have support from their insurance company,” said Cournoyer. “That’s where I ran it and called it the independent league. Now we’re back to being American Legion again.”

American Legion will have 19u and 17u leagues this year as each league boasts north and south divisions, and three area teams will participate.

The three Midcoast teams will play 18-game regular-season schedules.
