Seventh grade students at Oceanside Middle School in Thomaston celebrated their annual Medieval Day June 1 and June 4.

The event was the culmination of the school’s unit of study on the medieval era.

Matt Blazek of History Live North East was on site to give a weapons demonstration, answer questions and host a jousting tournament for the students.

Blazek, who lives in Union, also launched melons across the school’s soccer field using Hammond’s Hammer, a trebuchet he made using donated wood from Hammond Lumber.

Students were encouraged to dress up for the event, and were separated into kingdoms with a king and queen.
