Pauline Marie Morris Tabbutt Thomas, 90, passed away peacefully after a short stay at PenBay Medical Center in Rockport June 1, 2021.

Pauline was born Dec. 16, 1930, in Rockland, to parents Cecil and Evelyn Niles Morris of Tenants Harbor. Pauline was a graduate of the St. George High School, Class of 1949.

She married Russell Tabbutt of Thomaston in November 1949 and moved to Gloucester, Mass., where Russell worked in boat building, and they had their first child. Soon after, they moved back to Thomaston, where they built a boat shop and a home on Water Street, and continued to raise a family of four girls over the years.

Pauline was a past president of the Ladies Firemen’s Auxiliary. She picked out crabmeat to sell at home and in stores. Back then, she was known as Polly Tabbutt.

Throughout her years, she worked at Crowe Rope, Atwood’s, National Sea Products and Port Clyde Packing Co., then on to the Methodist Conference Home in Rockland where she worked in the kitchen.

Pauline spent most of her years in Thomaston, three years in Conway, N.H., 15 years in Owls Head, then 12 years in Islesboro doing caregiving and care taking work with her husband, Rex. They later moved back to Thomaston, due to his illness, then to his home in Warren on the Patterson Mill Road.

After the loss of her second husband, Pauline moved to her grandson’s home on Atlantic Highway in Warren, where she fully enjoyed farm life. Forever watching the cows and pigs grow, as well as the antics of the hens, and loved watching birds that visited her feeders, until she went to live at Crawford Commons just a little over a year ago.

Pauline was a quilt maker and loved to sew. She attended many craft fairs, and displayed and sold her quilts and other items at the Union Fair Grounds. She and Rex also did their share of camping all over Maine and New Hampshire and loved the good times they shared with their best friends, Dick and Annie Cilley of Belmont.

Pauline was predeceased by her two husbands Russell Tabbutt of Thomaston and Rex Thomas of Warren; daughter Susan Betts of Thomaston; parents Cecil Morris of Tenants Harbor and Evelyn Morris of Woburn, Mass., and great-grandson Michael Obuchon of Warren.

Pauline will be sadly missed by her surviving family Sally Ploski of Waldoboro, Shirley Tabbutt of Warren and Nancy Refregier of Union; step-daughter Betty Lou Richards of Hope; brother Richard Morris of Biddeford; sisters Joanne Morgan of Reading, Mass. Dorothy and husband, Frank, Minghella of Woburn, Mass. and Shirley Robinson of Merrimack, N.H.

She also leaves behind five wonderful grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews and their families.

Pauline requested no funeral services be held. Her family will honor her life privatelyt, where she will be laid to rest at the Thomaston Village Cemetery alongside her first husband Russell Tabbutt.
