Gardener John Fromer will lead a presentation, “Gardening for Maine Newcomers” at Merryspring Nature Center Tuesday, June 15 at noon.

For gardeners who are new to Maine, it can take some time adjusting to the state’s short growing season. This presentation will cover all aspects of gardening in Maine for both beginners and veterans to help their gardens thrive. Fromer will discuss how the seasons affect the garden, what varieties of plants work best for Maine’s climate, perennial choices for pollinators and hummingbirds, and soil health considerations.

Fromer has been a Maine Master Gardener since 1998 and runs Appleton Ridge Flower and Vegetable Farm with his wife Kathy, also a Maine Master Gardener. He currently serves on the Merryspring board of trustees.

This talk is part of Merryspring's Outdoor Spring Talk series. Outdoor Talks are held in a distanced manner in the Hexagon at Merryspring. The cost of this program is $5 for the general public, with a free admission for Merryspring members. No preregistration is necessary for this event.
