A 57-year-old Rockland man was issued a summons for assault May 28 after police said he pushed a woman down to the pavement, injuring her.

Both the woman and the suspect were taken to the hospital.

Edwin Raye, 57, was issued the summons for assault, Rockland Police Sgt. Andrew Redden said May 28.

The woman was walking with her boyfriend shortly after 9:30 a.m. when Raye, who was parked in a car on Myrtle Street, began making derogatory comments about the woman who he did not know, police said.

The woman's boyfriend spoke to Raye, telling him to stop. Raye then got out of the vehicle and pushed the woman to the pavement where she suffered facial injuries.

The boyfriend intervened and Raye ended up needing to go to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport by ambulance as did the woman. Multiple ambulances and police responded.
