The Midcoast Athletics Center, Midcoast Sternmen, Midcoast Elite Basketball Club and Hybrid Fitness have formed a partnership. Collectively, they will offer a handful of programs, weekly clinics and camps.

Jim Graffam, a Waldoboro High School graduate, respected state-wide basketball coach and member of the Midcoast Sports Hall of Fame, will take on the role of program director for MCE, which will call MAC its official home.

The Midcoast Sternmen, a professional men's basketball squad, also will play its home games at MAC, while Hybrid Fitness, which is connected and associated with MAC, will be the exclusive strength and conditioning training center for the team.

Coach Graffam also will lead the Sternmen Hoops School, a per week youth basketball training program. It also will be coached by Sternmen players. That school starts the final week of April. All will be 6 to 7:30 p.m, with Tuesdays for grades 6-8, Wednesdays for grades 3-5 and Thursdays for kindergarten through grade 2. Tuition is $65 monthly or $25 drop-in.

Additionally, MCE will hold spring travel team tryouts for boys in grades 9 and 10 on Thursday, April 22 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The season will run through the beginning of June. Tuition includes four weekend tournaments, one practice per week, and one strength-training session with Hybrid Fitness per week.

Information on a middle school girls team will come soon.
