For weeks area boys youth basketball teams have battled for every inch of the Midcoast Athletics Center courts and on Saturday, March 27 they got a chance to demonstrate how much they had learned and improved during a one-day, five-game, end-of-season tournament.

When the final buzzer for the tourney for fifth- and sixth-graders had sounded one of three Medomak Valley teams was champion and one of two Camden Hills squads runner-up.

Richie Oliver, director at MAC, watched/officiated games played by the six teams during the season and ranked them for the tourney.

The team rankings were: 1, Camden Hills White; 2, Medomak Valley (Starr); 3, Camden Hills Red; 4, Medomak Valley (Donlin); 5, Medomak Valley (Morrison); and 6, Oceanside.

In Saturday's tourney, Medomak (Starr) outlasted Camden Hills White 40-27 in the championship game. The finalists had received first-round byes.

Earlier in the tourney, Camden Hills Red nipped Oceanside 33-31 in overtime, Medomak Valley (Donlin) beat Medomak Valley (Morrison) 29-21, Camden Hills White bested Medomak Valley (Donlin) 49-29 and Medomak Valley (Starr) defeated Camden Hills Red 40-30.

The title game was close early before Medomak Valley pulled away in the second half.

For the champs, Landon Starr tallied 21 points, including 12 in the first half and nine in the second. He also netted seven free throws. Clark Elwell also added eight points; Sylas Ripley, seven; and Grady Curtis, two.

Ripley also drilled a three-point shot.

Other Medomak Valley (Starr) team members are Owen Anderson, Logan Brow, Grady Emerson and Jacob Schanholtzer.

For Camden Hills White, Soren Johnson and Carter Campbell netted eight points; Cole Hedrich, six; Hector Clayton, four; and Emmett Milliken, one. Other team members are James Helmstetter and Victor Clayton.

The games in the tourney were two 20-minute halves — running time.
