Maine Speaker of the House Ryan Fecteau appointed State Rep. Bill Pluecker (I-Warren) to the Maine Board of Agriculture Jan. 25.

The Board of Agriculture is a policy-based research committee that works closely with the University of Maine System and advises the Chancellor and President of the University. The board will work in collaboration with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension to identify research and programming based on the needs of the agricultural community in Maine.

“I am so proud to have been appointed to the Board of Agriculture by the Speaker's Office,” said Pluecker.

“I think they recognized that my almost two decades of work in agriculture gives me the experience and expertise needed to competently advise the University of Maine on their agricultural research. We need to make sure that our industry stays resilient, economically profitable, and is able to feed Mainer's for the decades to come. Our industry needs to continue to evolve with the times with research and development as we weather the storms of climate change, and grow our industry."

The appointment to the seat is effective immediately, for a term of two-years.

Pluecker is serving his second term in Augusta and is serving on the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee, as well as the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee.
