The Camden Rotary Club has announce that it is the first Rotary Club in New England to charter as a “Peacebuilder Club.” This distinction reflects the Camden Rotary’s Club commitment to engage in peace projects and initiatives that create infrastructures for peace within our local community. The Camden Rotary Club is only one of 220 clubs worldwide that have been recognized by Rotary International for its commitment to peace.

For its first community peace initiative, the Camden Rotary Club invites the general public to a program it will host Tuesday, Jan. 19, at noon. This program will take place the day before the U.S. Presidential Inauguration. Steve Becton, chief officer of equity and inclusion for Facing History and Ourselves, will speak about “courageous conversations,” what they are and why our community should consider engaging in them.

“Just like so many of us in our community, Rotarians are dismayed by the growing divide in our nation,” said Chris Richmond, president of the Camden Rotary Club. “As people of action, the Camden Rotary invites our neighbors, friends, and people of all political persuasions to join us in an effort to learn about how we can create platforms for productive, meaningful, and respectful exchange — despite our differences.”
