With the holiday season underway, a new Little Library in Spruce Head has been stocked with a variety of adult and children’s books, ideal for combating winter boredom.

Spruce Head resident Tom Hammermeister spent many volunteer hours designing and building the handsome Little Library as well as a new message board—both now located in front of the Spruce Head Community Hall on Village Road.

Curiosity brought spectators to watch Hall Vice President Keith Dunn and Hammermeister as they assembled the new displays. Some even brought books to jumpstart the library collection, and others quickly spotted books they “always wanted to read.”

Hall President Peggy Williamson thanked Hammermeister for his craftsmanship and presented him with a Lowe’s gift certificate. She said, “I hope villagers and visitors alike will enjoy choosing a book and leaving a book.”

The Spruce Head Community Hall and Historical Association usually meets for potluck suppers four times a year, but 2020 has defied normal scheduling. Tentatively, the next potluck supper will be held at the Hall in May 2021, and plans are underway for the organization’s Centennial Celebration in 2022.
