From the desk of Events Coordinator Kasey Bielecki,

The holiday season is officially here, which means the Pope Memorial Humane Society Pet Angel Tree is back for its third year in a row. Our goal? To provide the animals in our care as much comfort and care while staying with us at Pope Memorial Humane Society.

Given the current state of, well, everything… we have decided to go virtual this year. The Pet Angel Tree will launch Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. on the Pope Memorial Humane Society Facebook page.

You will have the opportunity to see some of the current animals available for adoption and who your pet angel tree gifts will benefit. If you're not on Facebook, that is okay! Visit popehumane.org to sign up to be an angel for a local homeless pet this year. Each "tag" will have a few items on it to make each pet's stay with us that much more special.

While it is not necessary, we encourage our angels to wrap their gifts. You never know what fun the pups and kittens of Pope Memorial Humane Society will have unwrapping their presents. The kittens are hoping for lots of boxes! Gifts can be delivered any day to the shelter's front doors between 9 a.m. and 5 pm.

Additionally, you can deliver your gifts Dec. 19 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to the shelter's community room. You will be able to see your gifts placed under the tree; we might even send you home with a (made for humans) PMHS Christmas cookie!

With any luck, some of the animals printed on tags will be adopted this holiday season, any gifts bought for those animals will be passed along to their friends in the shelter!

One animal currently available for adoption at Pope Memorial Humane Society is Bridgette the rabbit. Bridgette will have a tag on the Pet Angel Tree, but she really wants a home for the holidays. Just shy of being a one-year-old and looking for a family that is familiar with rabbits, she is quiet but curious and loves to have her fur brushed.

As a Lionhead, she will require supplementary brushing, lots of fresh water, and hay. Rabbits make great pets; they are intelligent, loving, and are more than happy to play with you.

For more information about Bridgette or any of our other adoptable animals, visit popehumane.org. Fill out the online adoption application and get yourself into the shelter with an appointment. Animals are waiting to meet you!

Wish list: Canned cat food (no surprise there), cleaning supplies, canned dog food, small paper plates and hand soap.
