Dan Jacques and Georges Valley Buccaneers Sports Archives has created the first of what they hope are eight installments to represent the boys soccer team's eight state Class C titles.

Georges Valley High School of Thomaston, under the direction of hall-of-fame coach Sam Pendleton, won state championships in 1975, 1980, 1981, 1988, 1992, 1993, 1995 and 2003. Impressively, that is excellence over three decades.

The following are the scores of those state games: 1975: Georges Valley 2, Lubec 1. 1980: Georges Valley 3, Lubec 1. 1981: Georges Valley 1, Ashland 0. 1988: George Valley 1, Schenck of East Millinocket 0. 1992: Georges Valley 2, Madawaska 0. 1993: Georges Valley 2, Schenck 0. 1995: Georges Valley 1, George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill 0. 2003: Georges Valley 3, Dexter 1.

Of course, the Bucs also experienced many classic Western Class C playoff battles, with the likes of Richmond, North Yarmouth Academy. Saint Dominic of Lewiston (now Auburn), Yarmouth, Maranacook of Readfield, Sacopee Valley of Cornish, Carrabec of North Anson, Traip Academy of Kittery, Hall-Dale of Farmingdale and Famouth, among others.

Jacques said: "We here at Georges Valley Buccaneers Sports Archives are very pleased to present to you all, the first installment of the new Docu-Series "THE GREAT EIGHT"….1981: A Georges Valley Soccer Retrospective. Produced by Dan Jacques and Per Henrikson. Complete with game highlights, player interviews and much more. A special thank you to the Thomaston Public Library, Rockland Historical Society and the Rockland Public Library. A very special thank you to the YouTube page Maranacook Memories … for the 45-second video clip of the game at GV in 1981, for without you, this film never would have been made … thank you."

Jacques said the 1981 GVHS soccer video took the group about three months to finish and they plan to begin research on the next installment in a few months.

"So the timetable for the rest of the 'GREAT EIGHT' is gonna be the next few years … gonna take some time to do this all right. We can't cut any corners," Jacques said.
