Coastal Mountains Nature Program will hots an online presentation, The Future Forest of Coastal Maine, Thursday, Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. Presented by Nicholas Fisichelli and co-hosted by the Camden Public Library, the program will be held on the Zoom meeting platform. Email jpierce@librarycamden.org to request a link to attend.

Fisichelli, president and CEO of the Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park, will discuss research efforts to understand forest responses to climate change and climate adaptation frameworks to guide management actions.

Ongoing and future climate change challenges landowners and managers in the region to protect current and future forest ecosystems. Some tree species will be able to weather these changes and remain part of the landscape, other species may decline due to increasing stress and still other species currently found further south may expand their ranges north into coastal Maine. Which species will thrive and which will struggle? Do managers resist change to preserve past conditions or facilitate change towards desired new conditions? These are some of the challenging questions facing science and conservation.
