The Rockport Library Foundation is entering the final weeks of its “The Last Mile Challenge,” a one-to-one donation match toward reaching its fundraising goal of $225,000 for furniture and fixtures in the new library.

“We’re delighted with the response for our community,” said capital campaign Co-Chair Joan Welsh. “Our goal was ambitious but with only two weeks left to go, we’re now within $7,000 of our goal! And thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, we’re able to match every dollar raised through Nov. 30. So donors can double the value of their donation!”

With construction on schedule, the race is on to open the doors with all furnishings and fixtures in place.

Welsh adds, “We need to make sure there are enough stacks, desks, tables and chairs inside the building to support all the exciting new services that will be offered.”

The new library is proceeding on budget, with the exterior landscaping and roadwork nearing completion before winter closes in. Inside, finish work and stocking the shelves continues at a brisk pace. It’s expected that the doors will be opening to the public, pending COVID-19 guidelines, sometime in December.
