Today (Friday, Oct. 30) is the final day that Maine residents can get an absentee ballot without special circumstances.

Voters can vote absentee on Friday in the clerk's presence or go into municipal offices and pick up an absentee ballot Friday. Those ballots that must be returned before the close of the polls 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3.

State law defines special circumstances as being absent from the municipality unexpectedly during the entire time that the polls are open (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.); having a physical disability; an illness that prevents the voter from leaving their residence; or a resident of a coastal island who is unable to travel to the polls.
