The Williams-Brazier Post 37 of the American Legion, located at 37 Watts Lane, will hold its annual Veterans Day Celebration Nov. 11, beginning at 11 a.m. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be several changes to last year’s celebration.

Major changes to the celebration will see fewer speakers than last year as well as limited space for the day’s activities. Because of this, the Mid-Coast Community Band will not be able to provide its patriotic song list. In addition, there will not be any post-celebration snacks and refreshments. There will be bottled water available.

There will be two dedications this year. The first dedication will be that of the placement of an appropriate chair at the Post 37 POW/MIA table. The chair was purchased from Hussey Seating and will be dedicated to Arthur Kiskila, who served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1967. Mr. Kiskila was a Post 37 member and passed away earlier this year.

The second dedication will be to introduce a drop box for American flags that to be retired from service from their fair wear and tear. A non-commissioned U.S. Postal Service mailbox was transformed into a beautiful piece of Americana art by John Conway.

Once placed outdoors in the spring, anyone in the local area can drop off any unserviceable flag they may have for disposal. The next scheduled Post 37 Flag Retirement Ceremony will be held June 14, 2021, along with a tentative BBQ.

If weather permits, the Veterans Day Celebration will be held outdoors. Chairs will be provided, and all mask and social distance requirements will be followed. If weather is bad the ceremony will be held inside, with limited seating. Watch for any updates as more information is posted on the Post 37 Face Book page and in local papers.

There will be one more public event for Post 37 for 2020. This will be a wreath and bake sale, held during the weekend of Nov. 28 and 29.

The post will then take a hiatus from public events until March 2021, when the Post Unit 37 Auxiliary will host its annual St. Patrick’s Day Supper. We hope to see you all then.
