The Penobscot Bay Singers begin their 48th season of performing choral music in Midcoast Maine.

Creatively tapping into a love of performing, sharing musical stories, and having some fun, the Pen Bay Singers learned some new skills over the past few months to be able to entertain their loyal supporters.

"Poems, Prayers, and Delights: Virtual POPs – Fall 2020" premieres Sunday, Oct. 25, at 3 p.m. and Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. on Belfast Community Television, BCTV Channel 2 and 1301.

There will be other performances as well, in addition to online streaming options.

The audio version will be featured on Belfast Community Radio, WBFY 100.9, on the Live & Local program, which airs Sunday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m., with Vic Tredwell. Segments of the performance will be shared throughout the next few weeks.

Like all other performing artists, the Pen Bay Singers came up with a Plan B for the 2020 Concert Season. The singers present a collection of fan favorites, some feel good tunes, and an original PBS Parody from a popular Broadway show, to name a few. The group will present music from Bette Midler to The Everly Brothers to Sinatra; including a few nice surprises and special guests. Like many of you, the Singers tried to capture the ‘Spirit of the Times’ with this virtual performance. For now, the Pen Bay Singers wait, "'til we can meet again," and look forward to their virtual holiday program.

Many thanks to everyone who helped make this project possible. The premiere can also be viewed online at

For nearly 50 years, The Penobscot Bay Singers, originally the Robert Coller Chorale, has been a cultural asset to the Midcoast region and has been entertaining audiences in and around Waldo County since 1973. The singers are an eclectic group, ranging from a pre-teen to singers in their 80s, with varying backgrounds. The common factor is love of choral music and the development of aspiring singers into competent performers.

Robert Coller died in December of 2019. He left behind many unsung musical notes, and musicians whose lives he touched over the years. The Penobscot Bay Singers will be forever thankful for his initial vision.

The Penobscot Bay Singers are under the direction of Richard M. Dostie and accompanied by Linnea Johnson. Currently, all rehearsals are suspended until further notice.

The Penobscot Bay Singers is a 501 (c) (3) organization. Information about the group may be found on Facebook at Penobscot Bay Singers or
