The town of Thomaston purchased a small table and reserved it for use by VillageSoup reporter Christine Simmonds at Select Board and other town meetings.

The idea came from Select Board Chair Pete Lammert, who has worked for the town for many years.

Lammert has been providing Simmonds with a small plastic table, but town employee Donna Culbertson said that table was too small and not stable.

Culbertson located the new table at a municipal supply store in Augusta for $2, and printed up a name plate to be placed on the table.

The name plate reads “reserved for Christine Simmonds, Village Soup.”

Lammert said he understands the information flow for older residents is often reliant on the newspaper, and the relationship between a reporter and the town is important.

“The best thing you can do with the press is have a good relationship,” Lammert said.
