Nu Chapter of DKG, an international organization of leading women educators, honored member Jeanette Achorn Oct. 15 with a pin to commemorate her 55 years of membership.

She was initiated into membership in Eta Chapter in 1965 and transferred to Nu Chapter in 2011, where she completed two terms as president. She also served as DKG State Research Chair.

She taught for 33 years in three different MSAD 40 schools: Friendship Street, Miller Elementary and Prescott Memorial before retiring in 1988. She has volunteered at the Waldoboro Public Library and the Waldoborough Historical Society. At 90 years of age, she keeps busy with her current project of knitting 52 pairs of mittens for local children.

When asked what advice she would give to new teachers, she said, “Cooperate with the other staff members and always try to meet each child where he or she is, paying attention to learning styles and differences.”
