From the desk of Events Coordinator Kasey Bielecki,

Save the date: Sept. 12. What normally takes place in May is taking place in September this year. The Pope Memorial Humane Society Annual Cleanup and Cookout is set for Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon. It’s time to prepare the grounds for (Eek! should we say it?) winter.

We want you to join staff and fellow volunteers for a socially distanced cleanup day at Pope Memorial Humane Society. Painting, cleaning, gardening, trail maintenance and more. Many hands make light work! We will start at 9 a.m. and spend the next three hours working up an appetite.

Plan to grab work gloves, gardening tools and metal rakes and come down to Pope Memorial Humane Society Saturday, Sept. 12. As we get closer to the event, we will roll out more information, including Covid-19 guidelines for the day. In the meantime, save the date and prepare for a day of hard work and fun at PMHS.

Is anyone else waiting on their acceptance letter from Hogwarts? Well, maybe if you help Dumbledore, the Syrian hamster, find her new home, your letter might arrive sooner than expected. No Scabbers/Peter Pettigrew, this gal wants to remind you that “happiness can be found, even in the darkest of time, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”

Mischief managed. Fitting words and we fully expect them to be spoken once Mischief the cat has found her new home! Mischief lost her home of four years and is now a little wary of new people and experiences. Given time, and plenty of room to run about the house, no cupboard under the stairs for this girl, she will flourish and be more than happy to help you discover your Patronus.

If you’re interested in learning more about Dumbledore the Syrian hamster, Mischief the potentially magical cat, or any of our other adoptable animals, call Pope Memorial Humane Society at 594-2200.

The shelter is closed to public visits but all programs and services, including adoptions, are happening by appointment. We highly recommend getting a head start on the process and filling out the online adoption application at popehumane.org.

Wish list: pate style chicken recipe canned cat food, cleaning supplies, gift certificates to Hannaford, Walmart, and other local businesses.
