Merryspring Nature Center is presenting a variety of activities for families in August.

Nature's Tea Party is set for Friday, Aug. 14 at 10 a.m.

This program will show how to identify plants that can be safely harvested and made into refreshing summer drinks. Guests will be able to sample a variety of different teas and take home cuttings of plants to create mixes of their own.

Exploring Owl Pellets is on Friday, Aug. 21 at 10 a.m.

In this program families and children will learn about owl biology and behavior, and what species can be easily found in their own backyards. Following a short presentation, each child will be able to dissect an owl pellet and discover what the bird of prey ate for dinner

Night Hike, for families and children, will take place Saturday, Aug. 15 at 8 p.m.

This program will lead guests around Merryspring at dusk to discover nighttime ecology. The guided tour will allow guests to discover what happens at night, including listening for nighttime birds and owls, watching for crepuscular and nocturnal mammals, and looking for and detecting bats.

Preparing for activities

This program is outdoors. Families must wear face masks and adhere to safe social distancing guidelines. In the event of rain this program will be canceled. Guests should bring a flashlight and be prepared to be outside for up to one hour.
