Area high school students were all smiles Aug. 1 as they enjoyed The Midcoast Community Prom.

The Midcoast Community Prom was organized by Maine Coast Weddings & Special Events owners Linda Lewis, of Hope, and Kristin Saunders Falla, of Tenants Harbor.

The event featured an open air tent on Rockport's scenic harbor and lots of room for social distancing with the outdoor venue.

Lewis and Falla said they wanted to plan the event for the area high school students who missed out on so many celebrations this spring and didn't want them to miss out on the prom experience.

"Over the past 13 years we have seen the excitement kids have for prom when they come into our shop," Falla said.

The Midcoast Community Prom was a community wide collaboration, featuring cash and services donations so the students could have a special event.

"Everyone really came together to help us throw the kids a beautiful prom," Lewis said.

DJ Jim Letteney, of Letteney Financial Advisory LLC, was originally scheduled to DJ the Medomak Valley High School prom and was one of the first people with his wife, Jacque, to offer to help with the community prom. Letteney's tunes kept the kids dancing throughout the evening.

"We had the best time," said Marina Lamkins, Oceanside High School Class of 2020. "I danced so much that I’m still sore two days later. I’m super grateful for the opportunity to have one last prom!"

The students enjoyed beautiful centerpieces by Shelley's Flowers in Waldoboro and gift bag goodies donated by Laugh Loud Smile Big of Rockport and Bixby & Co. of Rockland.

Jessica LeCaptain Photography and Patrisha McLean Photography captured the prom-goers smiles as they enjoyed the evening and keepsake portraits.

"Seeing the kids there with those big smiles and hearing the chitter chatter as we sat and watched this amazing event come to real life was so breathtaking," said Mary Howard of Rockland, grandmother of a prom-goer.

Lewis and Falla said they had a great group of kids attend the community prom, and they were all very appreciative for the event to be organized for them.

"We all had so much fun last night .Thank you so much for putting it on, all your hard work paid off," Oceanside student Addie Hendricks told Lewis and Falla.

Lewis and Falla wanted to thank everyone who helped them make the event a success, including gold sponsor Maine Lobster Festival.
