Beginning on Monday, Aug. 10, the Farnsworth Art Museum will host a two-session online workshop entitled "Field Sketching with Sherrie York." The online workshop will take place Monday and Wednesday, Aug. 10 and 12, from 1 to 3 p.m. on Zoom.

Join local artist Sherrie York for a second round of Field Sketching! Participants will get into more techniques and inquiry. Field sketching is a valuable tool for gardeners, journalers, artists, scientists — anyone who wants to know more about the world around them. And in our fast-paced, phone-camera-clicking, social-media-sharing world, a handwritten and illustrated journal can help us to slow down, reflect, and experience the world in a more personal and intimate way.

Observation is the core of instructor York’s work, whether she is making a watercolor sketch of tidbits collected on a neighborhood hike or carving a complex linocut block of pine cones and leaf litter. A self-taught printmaker and compulsive wanderer of landscapes, York always has a sketchbook or journal close at hand, frequently one that she herself made. Her work has been presented in national and international exhibitions and is represented in corporate and museum collections across the United States.

The fee for this program is $72; $60 for Farnsworth members. To register for this program, or for more information, please visit farnsworthmuseum.org.
