New Hope for Women, Midcoast Maine’s only domestic violence resource center serving Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Knox and Waldo Counties, is cancelling its annual Pop Up Shop scheduled for this August.

“It was a very difficult decision,” states Pop Up Shop Committee Chair Cathy Landau-Painter, “However, with an eye on community health and safety, we will wait until next year when we hope that in-person gatherings will be more feasible.”

Landau-Painter went on to state that she anticipates a tremendous event next summer.

While necessary, the decision to cancel the Pop Up Shop leaves a significant gap in New Hope for Women’s budget. This is at a time when needs are growing, as many victims experience the impact of having been isolated with their abusers during the stay-at-home mandate.

Community members interested in making a contribution to New Hope for Women to assist in securing funds that would have been earned at the Pop Up Shop may do so at or P.O. Box A, Rockland ME 04841. Among other services for victims, donations will support new transitional housing units, where victims live for up to two years as they work toward stabilization.

Mark a calendar for late August 2021 for the upcoming collection of new and gently used women’s clothing for all seasons and accessories including handbags, shoes and jewelry.

Individuals interested in donating women’s clothing and accessories to next year’s event can contact New Hope for Women’s Development Director at 594-2128 x113 or to arrange for pick up or drop off.
