“Portraits and Other Entities,” an exhibit of works by Rockland artist Marjorie Strauss, will be on view at the Granite Gallery from Friday, July 31, through Tuesday, Aug. 4, open daily from 12 to 5 p.m. There will be a reception held outside Friday, July 31, from 4 to 6 p.m., with a rain date of Saturday, Aug. 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. The gallery is located at 68 Main St. Masks and physical distance are required.

Strauss has lived and exhibited in Maine for more than 30 years. She has a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art in painting.

“From the moment I took a class at Mass Art in portraits in pastel, I was gripped with the yearning to get a likeness, and the tactility and hands-on mushing around of pastels on paper. I went on to doing portraits on the Cape for two summers, before and after college. Over the years the tactility of working in pastel has led me to working in clay, making three-dimensional pieces that have a different kind of presence from 2-D. The sculptural pieces are often faces, some in planter form. I will also be showing pastels and oils.”

Strauss has other art appearances at the Eastern Tire Company Gallery, 70 Park St., Rockland, a group show through August; and at Continuum Physical Therapy, 91 Camden St, Ste. 401, Rockland.
