The state's largest union, theĀ American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, or also known as AFL-CIO, endorsed the candidacy of Rep. Jeffrey Evangelos, I-Friendship, for House District 91, encompassing Friendship, Waldoboro, Washington and west Union.
In a letter received by the candidate. written by union president Cynthia Phinney, the union informed Evangelos he was the best candidate for working people, by writing, "we are pleased to inform you that the Maine AFL-CIO has endorsed your candidacy for the Maine House of Representatives in the 2020 General Election."
Commenting on the endorsement, Rep. Evangelos stated that "my voting record in support of working people, livable wages, and affordable health care remains steadfast. I support the unions across Maine and have gone on record in support of the workers at Bath Iron Works in their battle with management for a fair contract.
"While I hope the strike ends soon, it will only end when Bath realizes that hiring independent contractors to subvert the rights of working families is a failed strategy. I urge the ship builders to stay united and strong in pursuit of a contract that underscores their job security."
