The third season of the RunBelfast race series has run up against COVID-19 (coronavirus). A reboot to nearly all-virtual and series organizers are in position to encourage residents to get outside, keep moving and support five area organizations.

Kathy Young of RunBelfast 2020 said "a virtual series allows participants to run and walk anywhere they choose, almost anytime they want, in the week leading up to "race day." Using the honor system, race participants will email with their time and distance before midnight on race day."

The organization will publish the participants and all will be considered a "winner," she said.

Participants can register for individual races or sign-up for the entire series so they have something to strive for, she said. "They can set their own distance as well if they want to run more, or get more fit as the summer progresses," Young said.

Young said a handful of organizations provide important services and support for Waldo County and RunBelfast organizers hope all will participate in the races/walks with that in mind.

The Rollie’s "Run for Kids" on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 8:30 a.m. on the Belfast Rail Trail remains an in-person event.

"RunBelfast sincerely hopes that everyone can all come together by then to enjoy a morning on the Rail Trail," she said. "Watch for updates through the summer. Until then, consider registering on for the series or any of the individual races," which follows:

Coastal Mountains Land Trust's "Pendleton" 5K and 5-mile fun run/walk, Saturday, June 6.

P.A.W.S's "Paces for Paws" 5K and walk-a-thon, Saturday, June 20.

Belfast Rotary's "Kilted Canter" 5K, Saturday, July 18.

Belfast Rotary's "Bug Run" 5K, Saturday, Aug. 15.

Waldo County YMCA's "Pancake Triple Stack," Saturday, Sept. 19.

Rollie’s "Run for Kids" 5K, Saturday, Oct. 3.

The RunBelfast 2020 series is supported by Damariscotta Bank & Trust with endorsement from the Belfast parks and recreation department.
